Bio-ID Table
Exhibition table for Arup Gallery, Bartlett BPro show, LFA exhibition, London
The Bio-ID table is simultaneously a table, a plinth and a display showcase for exhibitions
The concept is based on the morphology of a pitcher plant where deep inner spaces enable artefacts to be embedded withinthe body of the structure. The openings of the top surface work like theperistomes of the plant, offering a variety of apertures that simultaneously illustrate and protect the artefacts in the variable size and depth of the voids.
The table is made of four separate parts that interlock to create a flower-like arrangement with four petals. The digital fabrication entails the assembly of recycled plywood boards that were routedinto a set of striated layers with variable thickness. The guarantee isstructural integrity, as most of the weight is distributed at the bottom of the table and lighter parts cantilevered on the top.
